After stopping a few days in the infernal heat of Nanjing, I arrived in Shenzhen, where I feel at home. When I go there, I am a guest of my wonderful Chinese friends. I missed the Minnie and Roy smile, the dinners together and I could not leave without hugging them once again. This shot has been taken during a typhoon, from the bathroom window, in a restaurant. In front of me, the lights of a multi-floor brothel, a legacy of a traditional China. In this Wong Kar Wai atmosphere, the drops on the window increased nostalgia in my chest. The next day the return flight to Milan was waiting for me.

Seoul was a city I've never been. It's not easy to get it, huge, with its big river, the rolling hills, the twenty million souls and the rainy season. Twelve intense days between endless subway journeys,
sudden season changes, the visa application for China, last leg of my journey. Here we are in the upper part of the famous Itaewon neighborhood where a Mosque and a large Muslim quarter are within walking distance of the elegant boutiques and dizzy nightlife. The garbage buried the public telephone, my homecoming was fast approaching.

I reached South Korea by sea, with the ferry from Fukoka to Busan. I spent three nights in a beautiful apartment overlooking the bay, working all the time, while a constant rain hit the big window on the sixteenth floor. The city seemed to me beautiful and dirty, but unfortunately, I could not visit it. I called home several times, considering if it was the case to get an early flight back to Italy. But it was not necessary. In Seoul, the second commissioned report was waiting for me. This
is the first shot I took in the capital city.

The last stop in Japan was a lost weekend in Fukuoka, with its electric atmosphere. I had a lot of fun; people were friendly, I socialized even with Westerners - which I try to avoid when I travel to Asia - watching the World Cup matches in Russia, cheering for the home team, surrounded by lovely local girls. I got drunk every night, but I did not stop putting the camera on the tripod and taking some night shot. Like this one, next to the pub of a Liverpool guy, who in those days became my
headquarter.

After stopping a few days in Nagoya to meet a friend, I arrived in Osaka. I lived in a traditional house inside an old shopping arcade, at night I was used to wander by bicycle, often until dawn,
that came before 4 am. As if insomnia and my attitude wasn't enough a violent earthquake made the atmosphere even more unreal in the next days. I could not do anything but take pictures of this great void. Here we are on a pavement behind the big Tennoji station, not far from home. I still miss Osaka, if I close my eyes I can feel its scent.

Today we're following Alessandro Zanoni and his trip to Asia for 24h!
Stay tuned!
//
Last summer I took a three months trip to Asia. Working in the daytime as a graphic designer and at night as a photographer, both for my projects and for an Italian fashion magazine. After three weeks in Taipei, I moved to Tokyo, the first stop of my Japanese tour. Meanwhile in Italy, arose several familiar problems that often made me worry. Among the numerous night photos, I chose these shots of public telephones, to symbolize the trial of being close and far away in the remoteness. Here we are in Tokyo, in the elegant atrium of one of Ginza malls.
