  • “All veiled by sunlight”...

    Ne Obliviscaris - Urn

    Season of Mist, 2018
    _
Yellow marbled vinyl, limited to 700 units

Despite the fact that this album landed NeO on my AotY list in MMXVII, I’m just now getting around to owning it on vinyl. Season of Mist sure do love money, huh? If this thing was a reasonable price I would have bought it ages ago, but that’s neither here nor there. Urn is a beautiful, beautiful album full of unfurling layers and textures that reveal themselves after several listenings. Lots of NeO fans will tell you this is the band’s best album, and I’m inclined to agree. I worked through their discography backwards, starting from Urn, and I still feel that this record reigns supreme. This is an immensely talented band whose power is waxing, I firmly believe the best is yet to come.

  • Currently spinning Chronic Decay's Justify Your Existence, previously unreleased since 1994 until it was finally released on April 2010 by Me Saco Un Ojo Records (@mesacounojo). Pressed at an unknown mastering plant but this one appears to be lacquer cut, which my copy is in transparent yellow vinyl that is limited to 100 copies.

Chronic Decay is one of the more obscure Swedish death metal bands, having very few releases starting from their 7" EP, Ecstasy In Pain, a split with Exanthema, a couple demo tapes, and appearances in the Projections of a Stained Mind (released by CBR) and the Grindcore (released by Nuclear Blast) compilations. Justify Your Existence remained unreleased since after recording around 1994 and would later broke up. Luckily, Me Saco Un Ojo Records somehow received permission from a former band member to release the album around April 2010 with great acclaim. Heavily influenced by early Slayer and Sepultura (Beneath The Remains era), this is one kick ass death thrash metal album. Unfortunately, guitarist and drummer Miche Sjostrand passed away sometime around 1994, possibly after the release of this album.

This album is currently out of print even after the second repress on blue vinyl, but you should be to get a copy at some metal distro sites somewhere. Me Saco On Ojo also previously reissued the band's 7" EP and the split with Exanthema as well.

  • Portal | Outré | 2012 Hells Headbangers, black/bronze merge /444
Haven’t seen ION on anyone’s early AOTY lists, since it was a January release I think a lot of people are forgetting about it! This, their second LP, is great too.
