I just love Patroclus, okay? I think I really suit him and I would like to remake this as an actual cosplay.

  • This week on Writers & Company, Eleanor Wachtel talks to English novelist Pat Barker.
    📚
Her new novel, The Silence of the Girls, is a powerful retelling of The Iliad, reimagined from the point of view of Briseis, the 15-year-old queen who becomes Achilles's captured slave.
    📚
You can listen to their conversation at cbc.ca/writersandcompany or wherever you get your podcasts.

  • I’m a massive fan of Madeline Miller’s retellings of Greek mythology so I was super excited to get my hands on The Silence of the Girls, a retelling or The Iliad from the perspective of Briseis 🌸 it’s a fascinating interpretation and, while I found the prose slightly clunky in parts, I enjoyed this new feminist perspective 🏺

❝ there is the heat of love, the pulsing rush of longing, the lover’s whisper, irresistible—magic to make the sanest man go mad. ❞
    — THE ILIAD by Homer

    happy weekend, dear ones! 🖤
what have you all been up to the last two days?
my girl and me went to a beautiful little café - you probably saw that in my stories - and then managed to get a lot of stuff done in our new home! 💪 we decided to paint one entire wall in our living room - it’s a gorgeous dark green now. 👌 can’t wait to share a picture of it with you soon!

  • It's that time again! Book review Sunday! This week its Pat Barkers feminist re-telling of Homer's Iliad; The Silence of the Girls. A work of unparalleled genius. For the full review see the link in my bio.

I love The Song of Achilles and I especially love Patroclus, thanks for coming to my TED talk.
Have this shitty makeup I did at 1AM. Those are supposed to be golden tears on my face but the lightning is against me so is the pigments of my makeup yeet. Will redo this with golden body paint later.

  • Today, I wanted to show you my current read. Well, I’ve been reading the Iliad for about two weeks now (I’m a very slow reader when it comes to classics!), but to be fair I haven’t read any page in about four days. I tend to slip in and out of a reading slump. Right now, all I want to do is reread Harry Potter (again, already did my reread this year). I plan on finishing the Iliad soon and reread Frankenstein (giving it another chance). What are you currently reading?
