- This is Former CHP Officer Kevin Briggs and a man named Kevin Berthia. Berthia had been depressed for a while and decided in March of 2005, that he wanted to end his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Briggs was on patrol that day and when he got a call of a man, Berthia, on the other side of the guard rail. Briggs walked up to Berthia and engaged in a conversation that lasted a little over 92 minutes. Berthia finally agreed to come back over the railing and go to the hospital. For 8 years they did not see each other. When they reunited, Berthia broke down and thanked the officer profusely. Berthia credits Briggs with saving his life, and allowing him the opportunity to see his daughter, who’s now 13, grow up. Since the incident Berthia has become a suicide prevention advocate, has had 2 more children, and has gotten married. Had Officer Briggs not been there that day, Berthia Says he doesn’t know if he would be either. Officer Briggs Compassion that day saved a life. For 92 minutes, Officer Briggs talked to him human-to-human. Things like this, are either forgotten or not talked about. We need to highlight Officers like this to show that, it’s more than shootouts, drug busts, high speed chases, etc. 🙏💙🖤
