Whilst I was off in Dublin Julie spent the day shifting freshly split beech timber from a few old trees which were felled here in the eco-village. By the look of it, there's probably about 8 months worth there. It'll need to be seasoned for at least a year before burning. A huge amount of effort is required to get enough energy to bake bread for about 200 households, and have that energy be exclusively local and have the money that goes for paying for this stay within the local economy.
If your interested in where your energy comes from or will be coming from in the future Google Shannon LNG.
The Irish government with the backing of EU money and a private Fracking company based in Texas are about to build a massive gas terminal in the mouth of the river Shannon, but nobody is talking about it.
Last year the Irish government declared that there would be no Fracking in Ireland, so they are now just going to import it from the Rio Grande basin. Check out @TexasSierraClub for more details.
