  • So when I was 25, I was diagnosed with panic disorder. This sounds dramatic. It was and wasn’t. It did mean I felt like I was going to die, my heart rate would get sky high and my breathing rapid and shallow. I felt like I needed to run away from impending doom. They made me feel out of control as I felt like I couldn’t mentally control what was happening to my body.

I tried meds and therapy. I gained 50 lbs rapidly. I then gained 50 more. I couldn’t tell when I was hungry as I felt hungry all the time. I didn’t recognize myself at one point. My back hurt. I wasn’t motivated to do much except work. I felt like an old lady in my 30s. Add a couple of pregnancies to my already large body and my body felt wrecked.

It wasn’t until after my separation from my ex-husband that I finally decided to stop feeling like shit. I got some therapy, I focused on walking, different diet plans and healing emotionally. I still had panic attacks. I avoided the interstate for almost two years. The anxiety impacted every aspect of my life.

It wasn’t until I started eating clean 80% of more, meditating, a regular spiritual practice, and exercising that I finally got control over them. I’ve been feeling amazing.
    #
Then I had some personal stress earlier in the week and my anxiety started back in waves. I felt sad over this...but then I started using my tools to the best of my ability. I got my kids situated and went in my room, shut the door and meditated. I prayed. I read my daily book, journaled, and did some affirmations.
    #
It helped. I drove on the interstate today without incident. This was a major accomplishment considering.

I talked to thee of my dearest friends today @usfbrooke81 & @trissytan and had lunch with the great @angiecoleman70 which helped. I worked out (HIIT with step)
    #
All of this is a delicate combo that I will have to do for the rest of my life to take care of my anxiety which is a brain dysfunction much like depression.
    #
For now, when things seem not so in control, I’ve got to sit back, let them roll over me and deal with whichever outcome happens. Loving others and ourselves is our mission on this earth and why we are here.

  • “It was our job to show them other ways to do things... that’s why our third graders start visiting colleges, it’s about taking all of our children to the nutcracker, it’s about taking them all to white oak, taking them to places in Jacksonville that they’ve never seen, taking them to the Cummer Museum, it’s about all of that... it’s about providing an opportunity and giving them the strong sense of personality; to come to our donor events and be the stars. But we teach them to be respectful and confident so that they can do whatever it is that they want to do in their lives.
It is not defined by their income or their zip code, it’s defined by their dreams and some children, unfortunately, we have the help them dream because they have never had the opportunity to dream.” - Susan Golden, Executive Director of YMCA Charter School, Tiger Academy. #igersjax #makingadifference #ittakesavillage #underresourced #forabetterus #breakingdownbarriers #socialresponsibility #youth #socialgood #changelives #helpdream

  • On the other line of the phone my friend asked, “Why don’t you guys produce a ton of content pieces? Videos, podcasts, blogs, etc. I just feel like your business has an endless amount of things to teach.”
    ___
I remember having this phone call with my friend almost 2 years ago and being really frustrated and overwhelmed. I was sort of taking over our social media but really struggling with what to talk about because I wasn’t the expert on the topic of firearms training. It was a complicated process of Derek needing to hand me the info and then me organizing it in a way that resonated with your everyday person
    ___
Last year we got really committed to producing content. It was messy and disorganized, but we knew we’d find our groove eventually. Then we started moving in the direction of being a lifestyle brand and that opened the doors for a never ending amount of valuable content goodies 🤗
    ___
Building and producing content for this business is now one of my favorite hats to wear and Derek and I are having such a fun time building up an organized plan that can directly add value to you, in areas you want to learn about. And that’s The Weikart update on where we’ve been spending a good chunk of our time. Slowly finding our groove, one year at a time!

  • Thank you @jmattmke 👊
    ・・・such an inspiration!
Day 742: did an extra one, the first one didn’t feel right. Congrats to the Milwaukee Public Market for being named one of the Top 5 Farmer’s Markets in the US (though, I didn’t realize you fell in that category).

This is about more than just pushups - the 22 Pushup Challenge originated as a way to spread awareness that an average of 22 combat veterans take their own lives each day.

A recent statistic has shown that the number has decreased slightly to about 20 a day, but that is still too many!

If you need resources, you can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). Or text HELLO to 741-741 for the Crisis Text Line.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide, reach out and ask for help. It could save a life!

If you’d like to participate in the 22 Pushup Challenge, I encourage you to do so! Just record a video and post it on social media (Instagram, Facebook... wherever).

It doesn’t have to be “pretty” because it’s “not about the pushups” it’s about the awareness! Please tag me so I can support you with likes and comments (and a virtual pat on the back).
