  • hello.
    this is an older photo.
i thought i might update you all.
winter is really killing me mentally but i'm trying my best. i haven't been out to take photos since before Christmas. i've been investing more time in becoming a better me, and learning more about cars since it's a blooming passion i've found.
my leg is no longer fucked! it looks normal again! no more 🤢 looking bruises.
i started at starbucks and literally i have NEVER loved a job more. xoxo to that.
    anything i'm missing?

  • Guilty confession: I hate writing and avoid it at all costs. This includes writing research papers, dissertations, long captions and... writing in my lab book 🙈
    .
Unfortunately, for every hour a scientist spends in the lab, we will spend approximately 2-3 hours outside the lab (writing). Don't believe me? Just check out this recent study conducted by researchers at Harvard who collected data from over 5,000 researchers worldwide and asked them to monitor the amount of time they spent writing vs experimenting over a 5-month period: "G.R. Yu, G. Ullible et al. (2019) Can't believe you fell for that, Journal of Lame Pranks, 1(1), pp. 1-1".
    .
Seriously though, writing is SO important in science. Not only is it important to be able to communicate science to the general public through words and jokes that only we find funny, but we also need to be able to convince grants reviewers that our research is important so that they give us all their monies. Ocassionally, we also need to publish in peer-reviewed journals so that other scientists can take us seriously but let's skip the boring stuff and just get back to looking at science memes and somehow completing that lit review our PIs wanted "to see in [their] inbox at 6am sharp".
    .
Serious seriously - who else struggles with writing? Any tips on how to get the ball rolling?
    .
[Inb4 offended comments: this post is purely a joke. All the scientists I know are incredibly hard-working and do not waste grant money by flipping through memes at work. Don't believe me? Just check out this recent study.. 😜]
