    Song: Shake It Out
Lyric: It's always darkest before the dawn

    What a fucking song.

From the first time I heard this song, this lyric in particular spoke right to my soul - the idea that right before the light arrives where we feel warmth, vitality, liveliness, love... whatever our heart desires, we first experience the darkest of internal states.

Like a butterfly breaking from a cocoon, there's darkness, tension, force, energy, transformation and transmutation that occurs within us before we begin to experience the truth and magic of who we are - before we begin to truly feel joy, happiness, love and connection at a very deep and fundamental level.

This perceived difficult state is a natural process within ALL of nature whenever anything goes from one state to a higher state (like a caterpillar to a butterfly). This means it is something that is trying to make its way through us, all of the time.

The only difference for us as humans is that we are given the power of choice, and most of us use that choice to fight against what is trying to occur naturally within us - that natural transformation that is there to take us from the darkness before the dawn to the dawn itself.

The paradox in this as humans right now, is that the thing we are fearing, the darkness that we must embrace to transform into something greater, was never our darkness to begin with.

It was our mother's, our father's our grandparents', our ancestors; it is the darkness that already exists within the physical world that has been left by generation after generation who had no understanding of what to do with this apparent darkness.

    So what happened?

It got passed on, to children and to grand children (you are actually partly created in your grandmother. While your mother was in the womb of her mother, she was creating all of the eggs [you] she would ever have in her lifetime), and now many of us are here, generations later, carrying a whole heap of darkness that was never ours to begin with.
