  • 👸🏻Meet Jill-of-All-Trades entrepinay Giselle "G" Töngi. She is a familiar and respected figure in the Filipino community who has long been active in the entertainment industry, with over two decades of television experience in both the Asian and American market. Primarily recognized for her acting in film, television and theater in the Philippines, winning several awards & nominations for her work, Töngi is also an accomplished writer and producer. Her past work includes the short film “Pinoy Grease,” “Pinoy Tango,” as well as “The Balikbayan Project: With the Bascos,” a 13-part travel series about a second generation Fil-Am family’s experience in the Philippines . Her most recent stint in Manila was the role of Social Media Producer for Rappler.com, where Töngi contributed for the lifestyle, theater and entertainment section. She is also a regular columnist for Asian Journal under her Global Kababayan section. .

👩🏻‍🎓Töngi is a graduate of the University of California with a communications degree and double minor in film and theater. She is more recently defined by the many roles she plays off the stage. She has actively participated in or hosted many events and fundraisers in the Filipino American community. Her personal goals have always been aligned with melding her own bi-cultural identity. Growing up in the Philippines and America has given her a unique perspective, allowing her to value the importance of her roots. Töngi says that “to be able to bridge the gap between my own two cultures by creating content specifically for Fil-Ams such as myself is truly the focus of my professional career. To be able to be a voice in my community and be given the chance to represent the Fil-Am experience is also a way to define our culture and identity, which I take very seriously. This keeps me aligned with other people who are also working toward reuniting other fellow Fil-Ams together.”
Her true passions lie in activism for Philippine Women's reproductive rights.

  • A little late but here's my #10yearchallenge 😊 #2009vs2019 Second photo is from 2009, when I was about 16. My first ever #upcycled jewellery, using paper beads I made out of flyers and newspapers. I made them to sell for a school fundraiser. My 16 year old self would be so thrilled to learn about where I'm at today! I've learned so much this past year in terms of jewellery making and running my small business, and am so excited to continue to grow! 💕
    .
    .
First photo features some of my #electroformed pieces & #wirewrapped pendants complete with handmade chain! ✨🔨
    .
    .
📷 Also thanks @d.s.parody for sending me the photo of my old paper bead bracelets! So amazing to hear your mom still wears them 😊

Plant the seeds and enjoy the path. Don’t expect the flower to appear the next day. Don’t give up because there is too much weeding to do. Always remember why you started. 😎🤘🏽
There are two elements in this picture that helped me a lot on my way. The idea to try to follow my dreams and some tools (@halloklarheit) helping me to map these dreams out and prioritise my next steps. It’s all about clearing your mind and life of things that suck too much energy and focus on things that really matter. And don’t forget to enjoy the journey. 💜

  • Dainty copper gemstone rings coming soon! ✨ I'm so excited to finally have a decent photo of a few of my newest #electroformed pieces. 📷 Thanks @nner24 😘 Can't wait to show you the rest! ✨
    .
    .
Since I've been getting a lot questions on my recent Instagram stories, I thought I'd explain how I make these rings⬇️⬇️⬇️
    .
    .
I make these rings using an intricate process called #electroforming . Its kinda like art meets science. It's the process of transfering metal (in this case, copper) onto a conductive medium through electrodeposition. ⚡
    .
    .
To create a piece like this, I must first make what I will eventually coat in copper, using materials like epoxy, polymer clay, wire, sheet metal, gemstones or even organic materials like wood, leaves, feathers, shells etc. The possibilities are virtually endless. 🎨😊
    .
    .
Second, I must prep the piece. This involves sealing any gemstones or organic materials that may either get damaged or contaminate the electroplating solution. This usually involves several coats. I then need to coat any surface I want covered in copper with a conductive paint. (I use one with graphite powder). This process usually takes a few days to ensure proper drying. ⌚🖌️
    .
    .
I then suspend the piece into a solution that primarily consists of copper sulfate and sulfuric acid. Using a DC power supply, a current is sent through, which slowly causes copper from the anode to build onto my piece. Getting the copper thick enough takes around 24 - 36 hours. During this time, I'm frequently checking on the piece and making adjustments as needed. This includes rotating the piece and checking on ph levels (adding distilled water or acid as needed) to ensure its forming properly. ⚡⚛️
    .
    .
Once it's done forming, I must neutralize and clean the piece. I remove the sealer used to protect any gemstones. Lastly, I polish the piece using my rotary tools. Often the piece comes out fairly dull, so I need to meticulously polish with a variety of tools to get the copper bright and shiny! Sometimes I add patina, but I typically prefer shiny copper. ✨
    .
And that's it! If you made it this far, you're amazing!Comment "Love it! ❤️⚡" and I'll DM ya a #promo code!

  • Last night my mom & I attended @karacooney’s “When Women Ruled the World” @NatGeo Live talk thanks to my brother @jre_23. My 3rd-grade teacher made us read a book about Hatshepsut, and I’ve been fascinated with her since. Kara expanded my knowledge on Hatshepsut and the other lady kings of Egypt a lot, and I’m looking forward to reading her book! #natgeolive #whenwomenruledtheworld (Photo taken at @metmuseum)
