  • French toast by @farmerbrownsf // had a very satisfying soul food brunch here with @gen_dunno (always a good time for my stomach when she’s in town!). the French toast was decadently moist with a good Maillard rxn crunch, and the bloody Mary’s had great flavor. I can see why their brunch buffet was so popular when we showed up at opening time in a Saturday morning // what a wonderful space in the Tenderloin. I was so sad to hear they recently closed! now I’ll never get to go back and try their AYCE brunch buffet... just a clear example of how increasing rent prices drives out good businesses/tasty restaurants in #SF (even when they’re operating well and filling up the space). I believe they recently opened a restaurant copycat at SFO, but airport food is never the same. 😢 R.I.P. farmerbrown

  • More udon. ❤️ With tempura and oh so much more. And some super yummy and hearty winter food that is much loved in Japan (and I love it too): Oden on the second picture. It is a stew of tofu, fish cakes and daikon simmered in Dashi broth. It’s origin stretches back hundreds of years and thus makes it one of the oldest fast foods in Japan. Yummers! We had it at Koto Koto in Takamastu on Shikoku Island. #bonappetrip

  • I think my kids are prepping for Christmas Eve by staying up later and later and later every night. It's like somehow they know there's going to be a night soon where if they stay up long enough, eventually SANTA WILL COME. I'm seriously tempted to sound proof the walls and put a lock on the outside of the door. ▪️ ▪️

    But speaking of Santa...I think these must be his favorite cookies. I mean come on, sugar cookies + chocolate?? YES. This is my recipe for the SOFTEST sugar cookies of your life, but the chocolate version. They are amazing with vanilla frosting! ▪️
